Friday Satire

Some of the best recent political satire from around the web:

- The Capitol Steps sing "Super Zealous Radicals," about the ideologues on both ends of the political spectrum who keep us from getting anything done. Ever. And, as a special treat, the Steps have put up a link to their annual April Fool's Day radio show. [both RealPlayer format, the radio show runs about a half hour].

- "Congress Awards Itself Congressional Medal of Honor". "In recognition of its 'service above and beyond the call of duty in the legislative field,' Congress awarded itself the Congressional Medal of Honor Monday," reports The Onion.

- I missed this one last week, but Andy Borowitz's March 27 column is a winner. "In Rare Public Appearance, God Blasts Tom DeLay," Borowitz writes, noting that "the normally reclusive Ruler of the Universe took the unusual step of speaking to reporters to blast Rep. DeLay for repeatedly invoking His name in political fundraising appeals." "When asked if He intended to strike Rep. DeLay with a lightning bolt, God replied with a terse 'no comment,' but later said, 'I’ve been known to smite people in the past, and I’m not prepared to take smiting off the table.'"

- "Writer of GOP Schiavo Memo Outed as 'Curveball'". In a surprise twist, the [former] aide to Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) who penned the Schiavo talking points memo has also admitted to being 'Curveball', a now-very-discredited source on Iraqi's not-so-existent weapons of mass destruction programs. The aide insists that both cases are part of "a lifelong mission to get people to stop relying on unnamed sources."
