I want to point out this excellent post from The Yellow Line, "Moderates Under Attack". It highlights an issue of major concern to the RINO and other centrists, the targeting of moderates by extremist groups. After Senator Voinovich's heartfelt and sincere action yesterday in Foreign Relations, the ultra-conservative pro-Bolton group Move America Forward has released an ad (linked in the post) callling Voinovich "disloyal" and "a traitor to the Republican Party." [There is also a link to another ad being run by MoveOn.org against the moderate Democratic House Whip Steny Hoyer for his recent support of the bankruptcy bill - this knife cuts both ways].

As Alan notes, "Being a centrist means basing decisions on reason and principle. And that often means having the courage to vote against the party line." Couldn't have said it better myself.

Have you forgotten that "sincere politician" is an oxymoron? Whatever his reasons, sincerity was almost certainly not one of Voinovich's motivations. The Democrats are so starved for a victory they would pay a high price for this one. One of the problems with moderates is that they can sell out to the other side and claim heroism for doing so. I hope we find out his motivation here.

What good could possibly come to Voinovich from doing what he did? The Democrats can't give him anything ... and the Radical Republicans have already begun the process of tearing him apart.

I don't call it selling out. I call it courage.

If, however, we do find out that there was some nefarious motivation behind Voinovich's action, I will be the first one to call him on it. The only thing worse than extremism is hypocrisy.

Re: Your comment that the Democrats cannot give him anything. Please consult any source on "How Congress Works". Well, giving you some credit, make that "How Congress REALLY Works" or just look up "logrolling".
