SCOTUS Watch: Kristol Says It's O'Connor ...

Over at the Weekly Standard, Bill Kristol speculates (his word) that Justice Sandra Day O'Connor will retire from the Supreme Court as early as next week, and that President Bush will nominate Attorney General Alberto Gonzales as her replacement.

O'Connor's departure would be a big loss for centrism on the Supreme Court. Would Gonzales be a gain of any kind? I'm not sure. Is he the best we can hope for? Quite possibly.

Kristol's evidence seems circumstantial ... but we'll see.
