More Bad News for Bush/Congress

The newest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll is out, with some analysis here. Little positive data to be seized on by just about any current officeholders in there. But the worst news, as the Journal notes, is for congressional Republicans: "By 45% to 38%, Americans say they would prefer that the 2006 elections produce a Democratic-controlled Congress rather than a Republican-controlled Congress."

There are some interesting numbers in there regarding a Supreme Court pick as well.

Re: control of Congress switching parties...

JBD, I really think that most average Americans would prefer that control of Congress swaps hands every few elections.

I think it has something to do with the values of fair play being drummed into our people as little-uns. "We've got to take turns" and "that's only fair." Remember those lessons from your folks?

I don't really think it has much to do with the population truly disliking whomever is in charge at the moment. Though, that disfavor will certainly help usher in a new set of legislators.

It's also my personal opinion that after too many uninterrupted years in power, any party will become elitist and too big for its britches - forgetting to legislate for the country at large, not just its base.

I think that's where we're at right now.

heiuan- spot on- couldn't have said it any better. Our system is incredibly self-correcting. Even with the GOP controlling the 3 branches, it still struggles with internal divisions, a filibustering opposition and broad coalitions like the Gang of 14.

It's human nature to get greedy when things are going well. American voters sense this- and we periodically throw the bums out just to remind them who is in charge. I'm convinced that's what happened in 1994. The same could happen in '06.

JBD-

Because you are so good at framing bad commentary--Catch the video of Doug Feith on Wolf Blitzer (5pm)on CNN.

One of the most inept attempts to defend himself in his laying the groundwork getting us into the War!!!
