Don't Miss This

Bob Herbert in the New York Times today has an excellent column, "Who We Are." Please read the whole thing, but here's the first paragraph:

"You won't find many people willing to accuse John McCain, John Warner or Lindsey Graham of being soft on terrorism. But the three Republican senators are giving the White House fits with their attempt to get legislation approved that would expressly prohibit cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment of detainees in U.S. custody."

Herbert is right in suggesting that the success or failure of the amendments sponsored by the trio (and others) go directly to the heart of how Americans view ourselves as a people, and as a nation.

That the sponsors are all highly regarded veterans says more than any counter argument from those in the administation, who are shall we say less experienced, could.
