Bolton Vote Delayed

A Foreign Relations Committee vote on the Bolton nomination was scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday. Word today, however, is that committee Democrats have asked for and received (thanks to the impressive fairness of Chairman Lugar) additional time to investigate allegations against Bolton and question State Department officials in writing on the subject. A vote is now planned for sometime next week, possibly Tuesday. As Steve Clemons notes, "Time is actually on the side of those doing the investigating - not those trying to cover up Bolton's record."

In related news, Bill Clinton, at a U.N. press conference about his recent appointment as special envoy to regions affected by the December tsunami, would not comment on the merits of the Bolton nomination. "Somebody else in my family gets a vote on that," Clinton said.
