Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Roll Call's "Heard on the Hill" reports today that Senator John Sununu (R-NH) recently had his head shaved to show support for his colleague Arlen Specter, who has lost his own hair due to a round of chemotheraphy treatments. And now Sununu is upping the ante:

"Sununu now raises this challenge to the only two men on Earth who love their hair more than Cher loves hers: Sens. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.). 'I’ve been strongly encouraging them. I think they would be a very strong bipartisan duo.'

Stay tuned for blow-dried bipartisan dodging of the dare."

I don't know their public stances, if any, or their private intentions, but it would be a far greater tribute to Specter if both Sununu and Lott would back the embyonic stem cell research funding bill AND get Frist to stop delaying and confusing the issue. THAT would also help the untold millions -- and their families -- who cling to the very real hope that federal funding will yield the results that are so promising for so many fatal as well as chronic diseases.

The vast majority of Americans of all affiliations want this; it's about time for the Congress to act on the people's behalf rather than for the big pharmaceuticals.
