Poor Effort
You know the president's speech didn't work very well when the folks over at National Review fail him (here, here, here, here, here, here and here for a sampling). The president just took to the Rose Garden and offered little more than a laundry list of the bureaucratic measures being taken to combat the aftermath of Katrina. True, he recommended the Red Cross webpage, but as our nation faces a crisis that may turn out to be comparable to 9/11, he offered none of the leadership we saw in the days following that dark moment in our history. He looked cranky and petulant, like he has in recent days when defending the state of things in Iraq.
We need leadership now, not laundry lists.
[Update: Didn't mean to leave the impression that I don't appreciate the efforts being made by the federal, state, and local governments. Of course I don't. All the steps that are being taken by those and all other groups are necessary and important.]

Sleepwalking through leadership... he definitely needs Giuliana lessons in courage, determination and strength.
Bush has been one of the greatest leaders of my lifetime. I think you would be a little tired and cranky if you had to defend this country against the terrorists, re-build a coast line for a sinful city, try to keep filthy hippy anti-war commies in line, and run the business of the country every day!
I would have commented earlier but I am off bathing in filth and celebrating Lenin's birthday.
Looking for leadership? Then look no further then Bush's home state of Texas, which, as I point out, has gone to tremendous lengths to help out the countless refugees that have crossed our state line.
Gee Car, as an engineer myself like you are, I would have expected more examination of the data available on Bush that seems to refute your position. He has never clearly shown leadership except one day sytanding on rubble at the World Trade Center. Other than that the man has been a disgrace. We need someone like a President Kennedy that showed leadership and had true compassion in his day or a Roosevelt, not a Bush.
Car --
"Greatest Leaders of my lifetime"?
Wow. On the Internet, no one knows you're a 5-year-old.
