"Not Acceptable"

President Bush spoke briefly to the press on the White House lawn a few minutes ago before getting on Air Force One to head for the Gulf region. Finally recognizing that what's happened so far is not enough, Bush called the response to date "not acceptable." "We'll get on top of this situation, and we're going to help the people who need help."

It's long past time for that kind of statement. Get at it.

[Update: President Bush just finished a photo-op briefing with FEMA Director Mike Brown, the governors of AL and MS, and some Coast Guard folks. The fact that they just spent twenty minutes looking at a map and discussing what happened was kind of disturbing ... they couldn't have done that on the plane ride down from DC? I don't care that it was taped and shown on t.v.; whatever, that's to be expected - but couldn't they have done it on the plane and fed out the video later? Now Bush and the others have left for an aerial tour of the coastline, and several news outlets are reporting that the president will later spend some time on the ground in New Orleans before leaving the region. Good. -- 12:04 p.m.]

Where's Cheney during all this. I haven't heard one word from him. Does anyone know where he is?

On my blog a few moments ago I said, "I guess we must solve these crisis with the President and VP we've got, not what we want."

Charles, near as I can tell, he's still on vacation in Wyoming. Very good quip, by the way.

I am so reassured that Bush is worried about Trent Lott and can't wait to enjoy his rebuilt porch. This man is totally out of touch with feeling of others. He enjoys his lunch while others are staving to death in NO. He must have a life when Cindy Sheehan's son died for his country. Come on sheeple. Wake up.

Anon - agreed wholeheartedly on the Lott-porch comment. That was just dumb.
