Friday Satire
Since I pretty much got through this morning's headline last night (hooray for the 24-hour news cycle), I can get right to satire now:
First, since it is in fact Earth Day, a collection of related cartoons from Slate. Also on the environmental/energy front, Scrappleface gives us "Energy Bill Offers Incentives to Burn Cheese", noting a little-debated provision in the House energy legislation that would provide "government grants to manufacturers of vehicles powered by cheese combustion or decomposition as well as gasoline/cheese hybrids."
Tom DeLay's continued tribulations are bringing out the best in political satirists, with Mark Fiore providing "Ethics Exterminator" and Andy Borowitz reporting on the groundswell of support DeLay has received from a "bling-bedecked entourage" of "his posse ..."
Scrappleface has been the go-to site for satirical selections on the Bolton nomination and the nuclear option, offering up the following links this week:
Sen. Voinovich Offers Self for U.N. Ambassador
Biden Claims Bolton Staring at Him During Hearing: "Mr. Chairman, he's looking at me again," said Sen. Biden. "Make him stop looking at me."
Bolton Denies Boxer's Claim: 'I Am Not the Walrus'
Senate Dems Pre-taliate Against 'Nuclear Option'
CIA Says Sen. Frist Lacks Nuclear Capability : "[An] unnamed spokesman declined to clarify previous remarks in which the Tennessee Republican said that if Democrats continue to block votes on judicial nominees, he would 'turn the Senate into a lake of inconvenience and mild discomfort.'"
The Yellow Line provides quite a good synopsis of this video from John Kerry: A Message from John Kerry.

When Andrew Sullivan was trying to build readership he claimed to be a neo-con and the first gay conservative in the blogosphere. His early postings were artfully structured to give that impression. Since then he has reverted to the liberal ex-hawk that he is. Still, the gimmick worked and some still (apparently) read him. You have obviously (and smartly, I think) seen his model and adapted it to your needs. I am interested in reading a true RINO blog as well as any other claimed “centrist” blogs I run across. Sadly, you seem so far to be just another “reasonable liberal” blog – see Marccooper.com. Maybe you have just been on a liberal jag. Or maybe you have just skipped the fakeout period. Time will tell, eh?
When centrist seems to equal liberal, so be it. Sometimes it won't, sometimes it will.
The key word for me is "reasonable"; whatever word happens to follow that is fine.
