A Confession
I have to say this. I'm happy Congress has gone home to fundraise and hang out at county fairs for the month of August. I'm happy President Bush is going off to Crawford to clear brush, and I'm happy that there won't be any major Supreme Court decisions for the forseeable future. To paraphrase Judge Roberts, "the Constitution is safe for the summer." We can hope.
Over the past couple months, and the last few weeks particularly, things in the political arena have been moving at a frenetic pace, to say the least ... and I'm pleased to have the prospect of almost an entire month without having to constantly check up on long-running stories, worry about new developments every fifteen seconds, and so forth. Not that it hasn't been fun, of course - I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it - but it's good to have a little time to recuperate, catch my breath, and be able to sit back, catch up on reading, and post about things that I've been wanting to discuss but which have fallen through the cracks.
Of course political news will still be committed through the month of August, and I'll still cover that as it happens. And once karma kicks in, probably now that I've written this post there will be some gigantic story that throws my whole game plan out of whack - but I hope not. I am looking forward to getting some new ideas out there, working in some new topics for discussion, and most importantly laying the groundwork for the big push to increase support for redistricting reform in the fall.
Also, as Alan announced this morning, I'll be joining several other centrist bloggers at The Yellow Line Version 2.0, where we hope to bounce have some good centrist-oriented debates and discussions - I hope you'll all join in those. I'll still be posting here just as regularly as I have been, but will be chiming into debates (and starting some) over there as well.
So I hope that you will will continue to stick around and keep reading, keep posting comments and keep emailing as we move through what I hope will be a comparatively quiet, reflective August and back into the hurly-burly come September. I really appreciate, as always, your feedback and your thoughts, so keep them coming.
