When Russert Attacks

Yesterday the GOP and Dem candidates in this fall's Virginia gubernatorial election squared off in the race's first televised debate (independent Russ Potts was excluded at the insistence of the Republican, Jerry Kilgore). NBC's Tim Russert was the debate moderator, and he put Kilgore in a tough spot during a lengthy go-round over abortion rights. The Washington Post has a video clip up of the exchange, which is a must-see.

Jerry Kilgore cannot answer a direct question. And Russert, rightly so in this instance, made him look like an idiot. Russ Potts is going to get my vote.

Wow...Kilgore is kind of a goober. I wish these debates could move past knee jerk reactionary issues and into the serious concerns of the American people.

Thanks for posting this one. Russert can be a pitbull and more media inviduals need to pin these guys down on where they stand. Having said that, we heard promises in the 2000 Presidential election, where President Bush promised to be a uniter not a divider. So pronouncemnts are as only good as the ethics and values of the person ascribing to them.
