Peacekeepers Killed in Darfur

The BBC reports this morning that two Nigerian peacekeepers operating under African Union command, along with two civilian contractors, have been killed in an ambush in southern Darfur. three others were wounded in the attack. The report indicates these are the first peacekeeper deaths in the region, and they come just days after the African Union accused the Sudanese government of continuing to carry out concerted attacks against Darfurian civilians.

Darfur is not disappearing from the radar screen. Massacres continue there, and now some of those few charged with keeping the peace have been murdered. When will the world wake up? Or will we allow the nightmare to continue, and then wring our hands ten years from now that we didn't stop it in time?
