Kristof from North Korea

Don't miss Nicholas Kristof's Sunday New York Times column, written from Pyongyang, North Korea. I think he makes some excellent points, and the piece offers a glimpse inside the "hidden kingdom" that we Americans don't get very often at all.

Any thoughts on Kristof's conclusion that we should drop some sanctions and stop isolating North Korea?

I think it's a right policy long term, as it is with Cuba. However, the details for implementing it would need to be carefully constructed so as not to give the regimes too big of a win or simply allow them to enrich themselves without connecting their populations.

I agree entirely with your point. I think that in the long run, North Korea and the world would benefit from openness and the drawdown of sanctions, but you're right ... carefully, and in the right way.
