The New York Times profiles Coast Guard Vice Admiral Thad Allen today; Allen is the replacement for FEMA Director Mike "Assistant to the City Manager" Brown for ground operations on the Gulf Coast. If the article is accurate, I think the powers that be made a good call on this one. Combined with National Guard general Russell Honore, who's already been praised to the rooftops for his actions in New Orleans, Allen might actually be able to make some things happen down.
